REGION 3 (ST. ANN, TRELAWNY)

Winsdor Research Centre

​Time:

The tour commences one hour before sunset, so in summer we begin at 6pm and in winter we begin at 5pm. The tour lasts for 2 hours.​

The tour begins with a lecture about bats, their contributions to maintaining ecosystems via pollination, seed dispersal, and insect pest control, and how bats navigate at night using echolocation.  We then use a hand-held ultrasonic “bat detector” along a forest trail to locate the bats which emerge from Windsor Great Cave at sunset.  We then download the recordings to a computer and, using special acoustic software, identify all the bat species by the patterns of their recordings and demonstrate how improvements in technology enable wildlife biologists to better-understand and conserve nature.

 

REGION 4 (HANOVER, ST. JAMES, WESTMORELAND)

Montego Bay Marine Park Trust

The Montego Bay Marine Park Trust works alongside public and private partners to raise environmental awareness and promote stewardship while protecting and restoring this national treasure.  The Trust is tasked with managing a 15 square kilometer park and two Special Fishery Conservation Areas in Jamaica’s tourism capital and home to over 100,000 residents.

REGION 5 (MANCHESTER, ST. ELIZABETH)

Breds Treasure Beach Formation - Galleon Fish Sanctuary

Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 8-10 am.

Cost per person:

1.  ​Under 10 persons the total cost is $10000.

2.  From 10-20 persons total cost $19000.

3.  Exceeding 20 persons then the cost per person is $1250.

1.  Carry waterproof pouches to protect electronic devices.

2.  Clothing must be suitable for water level at waist height.

3.  Head wear for protection from sun recommended. Footwear must be suitable for seafloor conditions i.e. no bare feet during tour.

4.  Bring reusable water bottles no plastic bottles allowed.

5.  Feel free to bring snorkel gear (also available for rent but limited availability) or scuba gear along with valid scuba licence.

6.  No 'souvenirs' are to be taken from the beach or sea bed.

 

REGION 6 (KINGSTON, ST. CATHERINE, CLARENDON)
